Assalamualaikum and hi Dr Azah! As for today’s blog post, I am required to reflect on my overall experience of learning this subject, which is EDU 456 (Innovative technologies in teaching and learning). I cannot believe that I have come this far, learned a lot of things and gained knowledge along the way for this subject, and had to get ready to bid my farewell in a few weeks! To be honest, it was a very tough ride. Even though I am kind of familiar with some of the concepts for this subject, it still took me quite a lot of time to digest everything (hehe). I had a lot of fun learning everything you offered us this semester, Dr!
As for this subject, in this semester, we mainly discussed the introduction of innovative technologies and the relations to instructional technology. We also learned a lot of innovative technologies that can be used and implemented in teaching and learning. The innovative technologies, in my opinion, will benefit both educators and students in many ways. Additionally, in the lectures, we also thoroughly discuss the definition, history, multiple instructional design approaches, instructional theory, online web tools, and technology integration in the organisation. We also learned about the updated and latest thinking on all the instructional technology as the Internet is quickly and swiftly affecting instructions at all levels in all organisations. Through what I learnt in this subject, it is proven that the Internet is crucial and is doing a great job as a helper on technology integration.
Among every topic, I am not going to lie that the topic that caught my attention and piqued my interest the most is the approaches of the multiple instructional designs, both for teachers and developers. I am still astonished that the planning of each classroom or project has multiple steps, and the implementation process is quite complicated and very long. Never in my entire life will I imagine the process a teacher has to go through is that hard, Dr (this is one of the reasons why everyone should respect educators).
I also love that we learned about the tools for e-content development, such as how to set up a blog and a Google Classroom account. It is my first time setting up a blog account, and I am pretty satisfied with how it turned out! I also love that we learned about the application programs, especially for teaching and administrative purposes. For example, the lecture on the basic editing on Microsoft Word for page breaking and the steps to automatically generate a table of contents are some of my favourites! As a student, I think those skills are highly beneficial to help me with my assignments. It is such a shame that no one ever taught me the right way to do that before this!
Moreover, the lecture on Application Program (Spreadsheet) also caught my eye. I never knew the easy way to work with the Spreadsheet application, such as creating and working with a worksheet, entering formulas and data, inserting a chart, and creating a database using the Spreadsheet application! During the lecture on this topic, I was in awe because it is so easy to integrate and use all the basic functions of Excel! I had fun during the practical practice because I felt as if I was entering my students’ marks on the Spreadsheet (hehe). I was also excited because I discovered the neat and effortless way to store and calculate my monthly bills data, all using the Spreadsheet application!
I love how you incorporate flipped classrooms in your class, Dr! I enjoy reading and watching all the class materials before the lectures begin as it makes me aware of what to expect in the live lecture. I do not have anything, in particular, to suggest to make this class better, but I think it would be better if you could explain more about the test formats in the class! It will also be beneficial for us if you can provide us with the clone test paper as an exercise, as it will help to enlighten all of the students on the questions that will possibly come out in the final test. Other than that, I believe that I have nothing else to add!
You are honestly such an angel Dr, and I pray for nothing but only heaven to be your home in the Afterlife. Learning with you makes everything better, and I cannot thank you enough for all the assistance, guidance, patience, and love you have showered us with, this semester. It is such a blessing to be your student, and I can never thank you enough for that. I hope you remember to take care of yourself and always to stay safe, wherever you are!
Signing off,
Atrisyiah.
